March Meeting Recap:

Tom Kenyon

March 2016 - Tom Kenyon, open segment

Tom led us through the process of creating and turning open framed segmented bowls. The process involves careful planning, creating a profile drawing, cut list, cutting the segments, layering with a jig plate, gluing, turning and removing filler segments. Whew, each step is not to be taken lightly, but successfully completed, the result is astounding! Jigs and fixtures are an important part of the process. Wedgie sled, alignment plate and segment place ment jigs are important equipment. Removing filler segments appeared most difficult.

Words from our president

Just a short reminder about April's meeting, it is an ice cream social, top spin off, and wood auction.
As usual the short business meeting will be followed by President's Challenge, jigs and fixtures, and Show & Tell. Discussion of the jigs and fixtures will be deferred until the ice cream social. Before the meeting and during the top spin off, we will be selling wood raffle tickets. After the Show & Tell, ice-cream and toppings will be available and the top spin off will start. All tops are welcomed. Hopefully, there are lots of tops that then will be donated to the Children's Hospital. Prizes will be awarded.
After the spin off, we will hold a wood auction. I have a large collection of wood from Karl Hoff, who recently moved to Colorado and couldn't take all of his wood. Lots of great hunks and a few rough turned bowls ready for final turning. I need all the wood to be taken. If you want to donate wood to the auction, great, but plan to take some home with you.
Looking Forward to the meeting.

About the website

A reminder: the 'Members Only' portion of the website has a new password. That password was sent to all members via email last month. If you need it again, let me know.
Starting this month the website has a different home page for mobile devices. When you call the website, the software will test your device for size and deliver the mobile site if you are small. The Larger home page is still available via the menu at the bottom of the page if you like it that way. This is an experiment to see if we can deliver more readable content for your smaller cell phones. Testing was limited because I only have an iPhone, so I am counting on you to let me know how other devices work. Also please let me know whether the mobile site is indeed an advantage.
