A Message from Tom Kenyon and David Vannier

July's program is the members' favorite tools. Everybody has a favorite tool, that for some reason we just enjoy picking it up and using it. Members are invited to bring those special tools and talk about them. We will have the lathe setup so they can be demonstrated if the member wishes. Please bring the appropriate wood. The president's challenge is anything made with that special tool - new or old. Discussion of the tool will be during the program and not during show and tell. We are short of programs for the remaining year. Last month an email was sent out asking for program ideas. Thank You to everyone that responded, it helped identify the July's program, Our Favorite Tool. If you have ideas for the remaining meetings, please bring them forth!...Tom K

(Editor's note: The members of the board have hard jobs as it is. This year, without a program coordinator, their jobs are even harder. So please do what you can to ease their burden by suggesting or offering to run a meeting program.)

Our club provides all of us with a place to share and learn new things. Watching a fellow turner show how to use some special tool, or explaining how this made turning more enjoyable can be very informative. In July's meeting, we will all have that opportunity to show how we use one of those special tools, that we just enjoy using. Remember, just because you use it all the time doesn't mean that everyone else has had that experience. We frequently undervalue the things we have learned and now take for granted. So, when you pick up that new skill or new tool, thinking about volunteering to share with the rest of the club. I've spent a lot of my shop time this year working on learning new surface embellishment techniques. Lots of learning to do yet, but will share at some point in the future. In the mean time, think about what you do that you could share, or a technique that you would like to have another member share with us...Dave V

This is a reminder that the annual BBQ is on August 15, a week later than out normal meeting. We will need help, particularly since it will be at a new location. Jim has hosted us for a long time, and Larry has been our famous cook. They have had this down part. A new location, means new learning. So sign up to help if you can. Part of the BBQ is the wood auction, so now is the time to start to collect wood to contribute. We plan to have a tool yard sale/exchange - so if you have tools that you no longer use - please bring them - some other club member will want them. It is time to clean out that tool drawer! This is always a good time, one of those meetings you can socialize with other turners...Tom & Dave
