Repeating Laura's
July 28 email...important information about our August event:
"This year's club picnic will be on
Wednesday, August 14th, from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm.
It is a joint picnic with Silicon Valley Woodturners.
Members' spouses or significant others are welcome.
It is being held at Nonno's Restaurant, 21433 Broadway, Redwood Estates, CA 95033, (408) 353-5633.
Nonno's main attraction is a spacious outside dining area under the redwoods, offering plenty of shade. We may need to
park nearby and carpool up there as they may not be able to take all of our cars
-
more info on parking to follow.
It is being held earlier in the day than the normal WBW picnic start time to help people avoid the rush hour,
given that it's off of Highway 17 and traffic can be bad there.
Next year we'll try to work with SVW to find a park or other venue in a more central location
and start it a bit later to accommodate those who can't get away from work.
Please contact Laura Uden or Bob Gerenser with questions
-
hope to see you there! Info on the picnic is
included below.
Activities:
1. Lunch
2. Bocce Ball
3. Show and Tell
4. Competition
Details on Activities:
1. Lunch:
The club will provide pizza, salad, and soft drinks/water/juice.
Beer and wine are available for individual purchase.
2.
Bocce Ball: Nonno's has two Bocce courts.
I assume they have the balls as well.
3. Show and Tell:
Members are encouraged to bring examples of your work from the past 12 months
to be displayed by category and peer judged.
Categories will include natural edge bowls, cut edge (regular turned edge) bowls,
hollow forms, craft or specialty items, spindle work and segmented items.
First, second and third place ribbons will be awarded in each category,
along with a "Best of Show" award.
4. Competition:
The Picnic Challenge is: Anything You Want to Turn!
But it must fit completely inside a closed 6" X 6" X 6" cardboard box.
Bob G. will supply to entrants.
Judging will be strictly the will of the people:
whoever gets the most votes from participants wins!
If you want to submit something for the competition, contact Bob Gerenser
and we'll figure out how to get the carboard cube to you.
There are cash prizes for the competition:
1st prize = $100
2nd prize = $60
3rd prize = $40
