I've been a member of West Bay for almost 20 years.
In that time, we have changed locations twice.
We started in San Mateo at Hillsdale High School.
The location was great, with them allowing us to use their equipment.
After the shop teacher retired, and a change in school management, we were told that their insurance would not cover us.
Ugh. Off to search for a new location.
Thanks to Ken Clifford, we were able to get into the Los Altos Youth Center location at resident rates.
The downside was, no equipment and no storage.
The later being a big pain. Jim Laflin and I moved a lathe around for the meetings where we needed it, and Jim provided storage.
LeRoy offered to get us into his church, our current location.
The price is more than fair, and they have allowed us to store the lathe as well as the use of their big screen TV.
Free would be better, but beyond that the facilities have been outstanding.
I don't think we have thanked LeRoy enough for his help.
Meeting facilities are the number one issue for almost every club in AAW, and certainly are an issue here in the
"cheap house" Bay Area!
Unfortunately, a weekly group has temporarily bumped us from Tuesday nights.
Laura worked hard to get your inputs on our options. Frankly relocating represents a lot of work.
Someone would have to sign up to transport and store the lathe, and other stuff we are collecting.
Changing nights isn't great, as some of will forget.
But LeRoy and Laura have secured the second Monday of the month. Thank you!
Now, let's keep sharing with each other and we will all be better turners (and people) because of our friends.
Thank you to all who have and continue to work hard to give me the opportunity to keep learning.
See you Sept 9th!
Dave
