Presidents Challenge and Show and Tell – Open to All
It is never to late for yet another Calabash, and Gordon Rockhill who also had a segmented bowl with a story presented this one. As Gordon told this tale, Linda Salter was interested in learning how to turn segmented hollow forms, so she went to Provo, Utah for instruction and on returning, a number of members gathered at Al Forini small shop to learn how to make this same piece. Jim Laflin also added that Al showed a number of people how to turn off center.
Hands on presentation – Pen turning demo and assembly open to all members.
Jim Laflin, Bill Johnson and Tony Dowden help facilitate hands on pen making demo and assembly. Thank you to those members who brought their lathes and tools that allowed the penfest to be successful and thanks to Jim, Bill and Tony. There were a number of members who turned pens for the first time. That included one of our new members Virginia.
Wood Raffle and Silent Auction: While the pen’s were turning away Laura and Barry Uden were hawking raffle tickets for the wood raffle and talking up the table of silent auction items. Such items as a bowl gouge, small turning tool set, Woodturning Master class book, digital calipers and much more were available at auction and the wood raffle were club fundraisers that netted a good profit for the club. The wood raffle was a great success with almost every one taking home a nice piece of wood that will some day end up in the presidents challenge.
